12 Hard Rock Bands Who Succeeded By Never Selling Out
11. System Of A Down
System of a Down were the much-needed voice for hard rock in the early 2000's. With bands like Rage Against the Machine falling apart, this band offered hard rockers a more cerebral bludgeoning. As opposed to the other nu metal bands of the era, the band's lyrics offered brutal critiques of American political practices.
Though the band's material was some of the best of its time, the good times weren't meant to last. After the band's double release of Mesmerize and Hypnotize, creative differences in the group led to the band folding in 2006. While it was a shame to not have our hard rock heroes in the world anymore, the band's legacy has remained virtually spotless, with each record building upon the next beautifully.
Even when the band reunited at the start of the 2010's, the band were careful not to go into the studio without having material that all of them could get behind. Whereas most bands rise from the dead and only half-ass their new material, the band still seems to have the fans' best interests at heart when it comes to their ideas going forward. From day one, System has never played it safe on any of their records, and the world of hard rock wouldn't have it any other way.
