12 Hell-Raising Tracks To P*ss People Off With

12. Slipknot €“ Disasterpiece

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gocNVCMSog Slipknot's sophomore LP Iowa was a darker, more mature album than their self-titled debut. While Slipknot introduced a more melodic pace to a number of tracks on the album, they maintained the same sense of aggression and ferocity that defined the band's first outing. Disasterpiece, the third of 14 tracks on the album, begins with typical Slipknot gusto, introducing each instrument individually, before drowning them out with Corey Taylor's gut-wrenching growls. Supported by Joey Jordison's blistering double-bass pedals and Mick Thompson's churning, drop-tuned riffs, Disasterpiece is a fully comprehensive assault on the listener's senses. The track then tears into the listener with its hyper-violent lyrics. The sheer psychotic aggression of the first line alone, "I want to slit your throat and f**k the wound" sets a brutal tone for the remainder of the song, which then delves into themes of revenge, psychosis and injustice. The relentless speed and rhythm of the track combine to blood-boiling effect, and the lyrical imagery is, when coupled with Corey Taylor's agonising vocal delivery, deeply unsettling. Play this in front of the wrong people and your sure to get a reaction, albeit a unanimously negative one.
