Metallica, the best selling metal band of all time, are not known for doing things in half measures. Whether it is self-funding an experimental IMAX 3D concert film, covering an album with artwork made from semen and blood, or playing to their fans on every continent on earth.
That's right, Metallica became the first musical act to play a concert on all seven continents in 2013, bagging them a Guinness World Record for their troubles. The band held the gig, sans-amplifiers, in a specially constructed see-through dome at (scientific research station) Carlini Base in Antarctica, with the set transmitted to the audience via Bluetooth headphones.
But the record doesn't stop there: Metallica managed to literally go the extra mile and perform on all seven continents within the single calendar year, spanning tour dates in North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and, of course, Antarctica.
