12 Most Hated Hard Rock Albums (From Great Bands)
6. Forbidden - Black Sabbath
Black Sabbath is a band that doesn't owe the music industry a damn thing. Their accolades as the founders of heavy metal are certainly warranted, with songs like "Iron Man" and "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" giving rock a more metallic crunch. Even when madman Ozzy Osbourne departed, the band beautifully re-positioned themselves with powerhouse vocalist Ronnie James Dio through other Sabbath albums as well as the side project Heaven and Hell.
Though the band had a few shakeups, they were still going strong with new singer Tony Martin, but nothing could save the major slip up on Forbidden. The riffs from Tony Iommi are pretty good (as is expected), but the rest of the album features shoddy production as well some questionable artistic directions. It seems that the record company wanted to try to repeat the Run-DMC/Aerosmith model by pairing up Sabbath with Ice-T for "Illusion of Power," but the final result does seem to come off a bit clumsy.
At the same time, rumors of an original Sabbath reunion led to this album being released kicking and screaming out to the public. This is one of the worst cases for any band: an album that had amazing potential, but fell short in the actual execution of ideas.
