12 Most Hated Hard Rock Songs (On Great Albums)

4. Sun Arise - Alice Cooper

For most Alice Cooper fans, Love It To Death is the moment where the Alice character was truly born. Though there had been many avant garde hard rock made before this record, the band's songs mixed with Bob Ezrin's production made for some of the most ear-catching hooks of the early 70's.

There are countless classics on this record from "I'm Eighteen" to "The Ballad of Dwight Fry," but the ending track seems to be taken from somewhere else entirely. In an attempt to juxtapose his own madman reputation, Alice decided to cover "Sun Arise," a song by former comedic musician Rolf Harris. This seemed like a great idea on paper, with Alice invoking more childish writing tendencies to play off his disturbing visuals, but it doesn't really translate as well on an auditory level.

Instead of coming off as something disturbing, this just sounds like a light-hearted children's song with a slight rock twist to it. Cooper's music always made you feel slightly on edge while you listened, but this song was so sugary that it almost felt like it should be playing over the opening credits to a TV show. Cooper had finally hit upon his signature persona, but the songs were still a long way from future works like Welcome To My Nightmare.
