12 No-Skip Hard Rock Albums
8. AC/DC - High Voltage
While AC/DC face criticism of never changing their formula, their style and approach clearly works as they remain one of the biggest Rock bands of all time. The album High Voltage is where it all began.
Beginning with It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ’N’ Roll), the pumping rhythm sets the pace, and the bagpipe halfway through the song sets this apart from the rest of their catalogue.
Rock ’N’ Roll Singer is next, and it establishes Bon Scott’s ability to sing incredibly catchy choruses with his signature growl.
The Jack is the band’s first exploration into lyrics lathered with double-entendre. Is The Jack a condom? Is it an STI? Who cares?! It’s funny, catchy, and easy to dance to.
Live Wire is the track which showed off Angus Young’s effortless ability on the guitar, whereas T.N.T. is a whole band effort complete with a fantastic ‘oi’-filled intro which is difficult to ignore.
Can I Sit Next to You Girl and Little Lover are next, and both are sleazy tracks that remain fun and encourages listeners to nod their heads.
She’s Got Balls is a steady blues track where Scott sings with so much soul you can wear it.
Finally, the album concludes with High Voltage which borrows the main riff from the album’s first track, creating a perfect bookend. This track makes the statement: AC/DC have arrived and they are here to rock.
