12 Non-Headline Bands You Should See At Reading & Leeds

5. Happyness

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoIouHwGVmE Where/When: BBC Introducing Stage, Reading: Saturday, Leeds: Sunday Probably one of the newest bands on the entire lineup at Reading & Leeds, Happyness only released their debut EP in January of this year, before hurling out an album just 6 months later. Listening to them, you'd never think that their music was crafted that quickly, or even rushed out in the slightest. In fact, it's of a completely timeless nature that could place it anywhere from the progressive pop of the '60s and '70s, through to the new wave or college rock scenes in the decades following that. The South London trio are a healthy mixture of breezy indie rock and witty, artful pop music; never too pretentious and shoe-gazing, but still serious enough to warrant the band a healthy reception wherever they go, especially at recent live dates where feedback has been extremely positive. The age of the power trio may well be over, but the chemistry these young men have with each other is just as awe-inspiring when they roar through the likes of 'It's On You', a nostalgic, wistful look upon all things childhood, relationships, and the past. Undoubtedly a band for all ages, it certainly wouldn't be a surprise to see Happyness scale the upper reaches of the lineup in the coming years, with their sound suiting a vast range of the festival goers across Reading & Leeds.
