12 Perfect Classic Rock Albums With NO Bad Songs

6. RAM - Paul McCartney

It's hard to ask one of the greatest rockstars in the world to reinvent the world of rock and roll twice. Since Paul McCartney was already coming off of one of the greatest creative streaks of all time with the Beatles, his first solo record was a lot more slapdash coming from the self-proclaimed perfectionist of the group. The classic period was over though. It was time to get weird.

Recorded along with his wife Linda, RAM is pretty much the antithesis of what you would have expected from a Paul McCartney album. Venturing into the countryside, this entire record runs like a modern day indie rock album would today. Although there are still bits and pieces of Paul's magic in here like on Uncle Albert or Heart of the Country, the strongest tracks are when he's trying out some weirder molds like the wild Monkberry Moon Delight or the ukulele ditty Ram On.

Although Wings may have been right around the corner, the wall of sound that comes out of the closing song Back Seat of My Car is still up there with the greatest tunes that any of the Fab Four released post-breakup. While it may have gotten a flogging back in the day from both fans and critics, RAM doesn't get nearly the credit it deserves for how forward looking it is.
