12 Songs You Didn't Know Were Written About Famous People

7. Ed Sheeran - Don't

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iD2rhdFRehU Written by: Ed Sheeran with songwriter Benjamin Levin; released in 2014. Who it's about: Pop singer Ellie Goulding and, supposedly, One Direction's Niall Horan. When it comes to Don't, a single released off of Ed Sheeran's most recent album, X, all of the clues are in the lyrics. Sheeran's writing, which speaks of a girlfriend who cheated on him with a close friend, gives away clever bits and pieces that allow the listener to piece together the true story behind the song. Lines involving the girlfriend, such as "You and me, we make money the same way" and "You were only looking for a lover to burn" point the finger at British popstar Ellie Goulding, who Sheeran is confirmed to have had a relationship with, as she and Sheeran share a career, and "Burn" is one of her hit songs. As for the close friend, he is strongly believed to have been Niall Horan: during the time of Sheeran and Goulding's relationship, she was seen kissing Horan at an industry function - and, if Sheeran's lyrics are to be believed, the two did a whole lot more than kiss. However, Sheeran has recently stated that he has forgiven both parties who wronged him, saying, "I got over the anger the moment I wrote the song." It certainly doesn't hurt that his pain turned into a huge hit.
