12 Worst Sellout Albums In Hard Rock
1. Just Push Play - Aerosmith
At the end of the 80's, it seemed like Aerosmith was back in peak form. After fumbling through the late 70's and early 80's in a drug-fueled haze, things seemed to be on the rise once the band got Joe Perry back in the band and melded their sound with the hair metal of the day. As the decades went on though, that polish beneath the heaviness started to overtake one of America's greatest rock acts.
Though Get A Grip was a step towards more commercial material, songs like "Cryin" and "Livin On the Edge" have still held up as great Aerosmith cuts. However, once the band got into the studio in the era of boy bands and pop, they decided to cower to the commercial sound hook, line, and sinker.
Just Push Play does start off strong with tracks like "Beyond Beautiful" and "Jaded," but the record runs out of gas really quick, with many of the songs feeling like bad rewrites of the 2000's pop sound.
This may have served as a fine pop album, but the idea of it coming from the Bad Boys of Boston is all the more devastating. After years of rock and roll debauchery, that rootsy rock band we knew and loved had been replaced with a pop-rock shine.
