12 Worst Sellout Albums In Hard Rock
6. One More Light - Linkin Park
Throughout their career, Linkin Park always felt like an evolving artistic idea. Whether it was with their nu metal beginnings or their electronic experimentations in the 2010's, the band had a consistency for pushing their sound into places it had never been before. It's a noble effort for any band to undertake, but One More Light steered the band into waters they had no business being in.
As opposed to the band's previous effort The Hunting Party, this record has the band's pop tendencies turned up to 11, as if they are actively trying to snag radio time rather than write legitimate hooks. Granted, many Linkin Park songs had been able to cross over on the charts through the years, but these cuts were the first time the band sounded a bit soulless, with most of the songs being downtempo and slow burning.
While the album does open up about the band's transition into fatherhood, the actual music behind it seems too bland and uninteresting to hold your attention. It stings all the more considering Chester Bennington's suicide just a few months after this album release. The band may still be nursing a fresh wound at this point, but there's still hope that they will be able to come together and use music as the healing force.
