12 Worst Sellout Albums In Hard Rock
5. Diabolus In Musica - Slayer
From day one, Slayer has never been a band that compromised their sound. Whether it was in the 80's or on their last legs last year, the band always stuck to their guns and did whatever the hell they wanted to do regardless of any commercial viability. That kind of attitude has resonated with fans over the years, but Diabolus in Musica is the one moment where everything went awry.
Coming in the late 90's, this record shows the band embracing lower tunings and rhythmic structures that were ripped straight out of the nu metal scene. Instead of the battering ram songs, we were treated to cheap imitations of the nu metal kids from one of the greatest metal bands of all time.
On the surface, this album is not all bad, but it's definitely a low point considering the artist at work here. This is Slayer, the guys who tore into Metallica for becoming a rock band in the early part of the 90's. However, just a few years down the road, these guys found themselves following trends just like their heavy metal brethren. The band have always stood by their music until the end, but even Kerry King has admitted that Diabolus is his least favorite Slayer record.
