13 Great Songs About Death
11. Megadeth - À Tout Le Monde
So nice they recorded it twice, Dave Mustaine's strained, 'this bag I'm carrying is really heavy, someone please help' voice only adds to the emotion of this heavy metal ballad. Recorded for the 1994 album Youthanasia, the song has garnered a fair amount of controversy over the years, from promoting suicide to being connected to the 2006 Dawson College shooting.
Mustaine has come out several times to say it is actually about having the opportunity for a loved one that has died to give one last message. Following the aforementioned Dawson College shooting, Mustaine commented on the song, proclaiming it "...is based on a dream I had, where my mother came back from heaven to say 'I love you.' It's about me talking to her again."
Megadeth rerecorded the track for 2007's United Abominations featuring Cristina Scabbia from Lacuna Coil for reasons only known to Dave. With it came all the same accusations from 13 years previous, with MTV banning both versions of the song (back before they banned music altogether). In fairness, the chorus (when translated) is "to all the world, to all my friends, I love you, I have to leave" so you can see why they were nervous.
