4. Not Knowing Whether To Defend Morrissey Or Deride Him
Morrissey is outspoken and sometimes it seems as though he sets out to say controversial things on purpose. Indeed, the man can lay claim to some of the most outlandish quotes of the past century, all of them primed to provoke cries of "What?!" Choice cuts include: "You can't help but feel that the Chinese people are a subspecies" and "I wish that Prince Charles had been shot. I think it would have made the world a more interesting place." C'mon, Morrissey! Granted, Morrissey wouldn't be Morrissey if he didn't go about saying things like that - and indeed, he has been laying claim to such verbal obscurities for near-on twenty years - but sometimes it can be... well, a little annoying. As far as Smiths fans are concerned, it goes like this: on one hand, he's an icon and a musical genius; a true unique, if ever there was one. And on the other hand... well, he's slightly insufferable. It's a very confusing position to find yourself in.
