Some things are best left alone. The Smiths, with their near-perfect and beautifully concise little discography, are one of those things. Sure, the world would pretty much collapse onto itself if Morrissey and Johnny Marr ever announced that they'd let bygones be bygones and were going to reunite for a tour or a one-off gig, but even the truest of Smiths fans knows - deep in their hearts - that it just wouldn't be the same. The fact that the band haven't played together for over twenty years only adds to their iconic and legendary status - for them to pull a Fleetwood Mac would reduce some of the stature that they've gained over the years for resisting the temptation to play a few shows for the sake of some added cash, or getting back into the studio to record a load of forgettable, sub-par material, for lack of anything better to do. Would it be momentarily brilliant? Probably. Does that make it right? Absolutely not. Like this article? Are you a Smiths fan and do you relate to any of these points?
