Being cool is not just about your look. It's about your personality, your style of music, and an enigmatic blend of countless other things.

It's tricky to get the mix just right, but it always depends on what music you're playing, and who your audience is. If you're a Vampire Metal band (whatever that is), you probably should swap those cardigans and flip-flops for something leathery with a cape, white face paint and blood-red eye liner.

On the other hand, if you're some kind of indie-folk band, maybe button-up cardies and hipster specs you don't actually need are your thing?

But what you should never do, under any circumstances, is try and replicate Vince Noir's (Noel Fielding) Glam Folk band and sing "Are you going to Scarborough Fair?" dressed in turtlenecks and painted like Gene Simmons' Kiss makeup. It's a plan to dreadful it wasn't even a hit in the strange world that is the Mighty Boosh.
