For bands just starting out, shouting "Come see how good we are!" used to be the only way to get people interested. Sure your dad's mate could print you some flyers on the cheap, or you could use your own sick design skills to patch something together on Microsoft Word, but basically, word-of-mouth was the best and most effective way of drumming up support.
Nowadays, there's social media, youtube, and a whole host of other ways of getting yourself noticed. It makes the marketplace a bit more crowded, but play your cards right and your band could take off. It's a case of 'build it, and they will come'. If you look like a band with a fully functioning Facebook page, a youtube channel, and small following of your mates, people will begin to assume you are the next big thing, and it's time to cash in on that.
Draw them in and start performing. Time to pencil in some gig dates.
