13 Worst Cover Songs Of All Time

9. Avril Lavigne - Imagine

Avril Lavigne burst onto the scene with the release of her ‘Let Go’ album when she was just 18 years old. Her debut album was hugely successful but her career has seen its fair share of ups and downs since then.

One of the lows came in 2007 when she was featured on a compilation charity album, consisting of covers of John Lennon songs. It was probably an unwise decision to have Lavigne cover ‘Imagine’, arguably Lennon’s most iconic song. Particularly as this was released in the same year as Lavigne’s insufferable ‘Girlfriend’ single.

To be fair, Lavigne kept the track stripped back and true to the spirit of the song. It is far from the most offensively bad cover on this list, but it pales in comparison to Lennon’s original, which remains one of the most powerful and important songs of all time.
