14 Things Only Trivium Fans Will Understand

7. Being Thoroughly Blown Away By The Intricacy Of In Waves

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxOhc-dfEDY As the years went by, both Corey and Paulo started playing increasingly large roles in the band. For In Waves' title track (from the first album after Shattering The Skies Above that saw them feature in multiple roles), Paulo's clean vocals had become near indistinguishable from Matt's, with Corey's screaming also sounding just as impeccably throaty and impactful. That meant the band could showcase their experimental side even more, as now we had Matt, Corey and Paulo trading in alternate screams and lighter harmonies respectively, keeping Matt at the centre of the whole thing as he effortlessly switches between the two. It showed a real maturity to their sound - something that alongside the track's unique structure, bone-crushingly heavy songs like Chaos Reigns and A Skyline's Severance, retain this as one of their most underrated bodies of work.
