9. Marvin Gaye - Here, My Dear

Marvinhere My Dear Bowie isn't the only artist to have a classic album undeservedly ignored in favour of more popular works. While the loverman image of Marvin Gaye is enshrined through works such as Let's Get It On, and he reached new highs in soul music through the social conscience of What's Going On, Gaye was supremely nasty, vindictive and utterly compelling while chronicling his divorce from Anna Gordy. Bitter, honest and filled with hope for the future, it's nothing less than the best break-up record of all time.
