15 Alternative Hip Hop Artists You Need To Hear

2. clipping.

One of the most exciting things to happen in music over the past couple of years was the emergence of LA based experimental group clipping. They€™re not a band, they€™re a zeppelin explosion. A noise that could only be equalled by an eruption in an abattoir with crunching beats that are literally made of broken glass, tin pans and knuckle dusters. If you€™re not enjoying it then you aren€™t playing it loud enough. Made up of Daveed Diggs whose syrupy flow trips at a colossal rate of knots over spiky beats produced by William Hutson and Jonathan Snipes, clipping elbowed their way into importance with their debut mixtape midcity in 2013. An industrial hip hop album built out of sonic booms, car crashes and vitriol. Not content with settling they put out a full length album CLPPNG in 2014 where if anything they got even louder and more anarchic. They make music that€™s so distorted it makes your head spin with constant streams of feedback and screeching that curb stomps your head into soft putty and you only need to watch their performance for KEXP to see that. Sonically they manage to fill the entire space between your ears with the full spectrum of what it€™s possible to hear in one sitting. In later life when you€™re sitting with your grandkids and they ask why you can€™t hear so good any more, you can look them in the eye and tell them you were listening to clipping bitch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4HQb7DZI0I

Sometime Brummie with a love for tea, tequila and football teams that don't win a lot of games. Still don't really understand apostrophes.
