15 Alternative Hip Hop Artists You Need To Hear

9. Yung Lean

Yung Lean is like marmite. You€™ll either think he€™s one of the best things out there or you€™ll think that he€™s one of the biggest pricks in the business. Either way, he€™ll get a reaction. Initially everyone was unsure whether to take Yung Lean seriously or not, there were just so many questions that needed answering. Is he cool? Is it some sort of protest? Where€™d he get that hat? When did Sweden get a hip hop scene? When did Sweden start subverting the hip hop scene? Yung Lean didn€™t really answer any of these, instead he just went on a sold out tour across America. It€™s cloud rap that is just riddled with ennui, with producers that go by the moniker Sad Boys who look flat out bored when they€™re on stage. You wouldn€™t be surprised if they were checking their phones mid verse. Yung Lean could probably be classed as slacker rap with tracks and beats that have more air in them than a Texas sky. The Sad Boys know how to produce though, the beats and overall production is off the hook. Seriously, even if they are taking the piss it€™s still spectacular. Yung Lean talks about things that makes the internet go into overdrive, he references Wario and My Little Pony, Grey Goose and Oreos. Whatever this stuff is, it€™s something that you€™ll have to make your own mind up on because no one else is really that sure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMgkt9jdjTU
