4. Morbid Angel

As yet another band on this list who formed in 1983, Morbid Angel are legendary figures in the American death metal scene. Where other bands such as Vader and Napalm Death gradually transitioned into the death metal sound, Morbid Angel always focused around death metal conventions are helped to define the genre as a result.

Alongside other iconic names such as Obituary and Autopsy, Morbid Angel are regularly cited as influences for a large amount of the current band's in the death metal scene.

Despite their early formation, Morbid Angel didn't their debut album, 'Altars of Madness', until 1989. However, the wait for material was certainly worth it as this album is now considered an essential classic in the genre.

Other essential and timeless Morbid Angel records include 1991's 'Blessed Are The Sick', 1993's 'Covenant' and 1995's 'Domination'. Morbid Angel now have a grand total of nine studio albums with the latest of which, 'Kingdoms Disdained', hitting record store shelves and streaming services in 2017.
