Even though death metal is a genre littered with exceptionally talented and easily recognisable bands, there could be one band who were worthy of being the named the genres best ever.
Like many other mentioned, Death formed in 1983 and their influence stretches far beyond death metal and into other genres such as extreme metal and heavy metal as a whole.
Death started to be recognised on an international level in 1987, following the release of their debut record, 'Scream Bloody Gore'. Considering tier phenomenal influence, Death has a surprisingly short career, initially disbanding in 1996. They later reformed in 1998 but disbanded permanently following the sudden death of vocalist and founder, Chuck Schuldiner.
The band's legacy has extended on past their time as a band by almost two decades now as they're still viewed as a legendary group.
1991's 'Human' in particular is renowned as an iconic metal record and is regularly regarded as one of the best metal albums of the 1990's.
