5. Inside The Fire

Easily one of Disturbed’s darkest songs, the song is best understood in the context of both the accompanying music video and the interview Draiman gave about it. Without understanding the context, this song could be easily be interpreted as another ‘praise the Devil’ theme that has been so prevalent in metal music.

However, this song isn’t necessarily about such subject matter; it’s about suicide.

The music video for this song is all about Draiman’s girlfriend committing suicide and Draiman trying to cope, all while the Devil appears on his shoulder and tries to coax him into following her into Hell. In an interview, he admits that this is based on the real-life suicide of his first girlfriend, and the emotional damage it caused him. There's also the warning before and after the official music video for legitimate thought of suicide, which only shows how serious the issue is.

On the instrumental side, ‘Inside the Fire’ features one of the best intros that Disturbed ever put together. The song has an excellent rhythm and it goes by relatively quickly, until about the two-minute mark, when Dan Donegan provides listeners with another example of his musical skills. The bridge features some truly outstanding guitar playing, and builds up the song for one final repeat of the chorus.
