15 Best Disturbed Tracks
11. Asylum
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1K9jBL2syJ8This song combines all of the timeless elements that make a classic Disturbed song: David Draiman’s evil laugh and animalistic noises, a theme of pain and suffering, epic guitar riffs, and a catchy rhythm.
Initially, this song was meant to be longer, and the ‘opening’ song ‘Remnants’ was supposed to be the complete opening to ‘Asylum’. However, it was later decided that the original song would be split in two, which is why ‘Asylum’ instead begins with Dan Donegan’s guitar riffs and David Draiman’s typical evil laughter.
Asylum is one of those songs that doesn’t truly give the listener time to breathe, as the lyrics and the accompanying instruments keep telling a story throughout the composition.
The song’s name and lyrics have a dual meaning. On one hand, the song’s meant to reference the idea of a lost love that caused one to drive the other insane. On the other, Asylum represents the idea of ‘asylum’ being a kind of refuge.
Whatever your interpretation of asylum is, the main point is still the same: the guitar riffs, drums, and vocals are all put together in an excellent composition that proved that Disturbed hadn’t lost any of their trademark musical quirks after so many years together.
Best lyrics:
“In the end you will realize finally, how you were deceived,
This has gone on too long,
No more demonic dreams,
Destroyer, come tonight because her memory is killing me”
