10. Another Way To Die

It doesn’t get more political than this.

One of the biggest and most frequent criticisms towards metal music is its thematic undertones. Anarchism, counterculture, misanthropy, and rejection of every religious, social and moral standard, are abound in this genre of music. Disturbed are guilty of referencing at least a few of these ideas (especially vis-à-vis human suffering), but not in this song.

Instead, Disturbed take a different approach, providing an almost scathing critique of modern society and how there’s a huge lack of empathy for the impoverished and the natural environment itself. With lyrics like ‘Still, we ravage the world that we love’ and ‘The indulgence of our lives, Has cast a shadow on our world’, this excellent song is meant to be a rallying cry against the modern culture of consumerism and excess that led to such tragedies as the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

With one of the most powerful intros ever heard in a Disturbed song, heavy guitar riffs, outstanding lyrics and an eye-catching music video, ‘Another Way to Die’ was an excellent attention-grabber that drew tons of attention to the band’s release of the ‘Asylum’ album.

Best Lyrics:

“Still, we ravage the world that we love,
And the millions cry out to be saved,
Our endless maniacal appetite,
Left us with another way to die”
