15 Best Hard Rock & Metal Albums Of 2020 (So Far)

5. What The Dead Men Say - Trivium

Over the past few years, Trivium have been out there bringing some of the best material in the metal scene. Whereas most bands would start to see cracks forming in their foundation at this point in their career, Trivium have been able to take all of the mistakes they've made in the past and turn them into some of the most ferocious tunes in the genre.

2017's The Sin and the Sentence may have been the most concise record the band has made, but What The Dead Men Say may give it a run for its money. Across every track, Matt Heafy is delivering some of the best vocal performances of his career. Given the amount of abuse his vocal cords take with every album, the man is still able to switch from melodic singing to feral shrieks without batting an eye.

In terms of guitar work, the album is on another level, with Heafy and Corey Beaulieu putting together mini symphonies with their harmonization. When everyone else is putting the metal genre through a certain type of filter, Trivium are still delivering a concentrated helping of heaviness that doesn't need to conform to any trends. Keep this kind of streak going boys...it really suits you.
