10. Carnivore - Body Count

It feels like a while since we've gotten a great nu metal record. Even though some bands like Hollywood Undead and From Ashes To New still showcase their detuned tendencies, their music tends to conjure up cringey nostalgia rather than breaking any ground. While there's nothing wrong with pulling from an older sound, Body Count is showing everyone how to do it the right way.

Though it may have been east to write off Ice-T's metal outfit in the early years, the band have mastered their chops in both hip hop and metal. You can't really call what Ice is doing singing per se, but the delivery actually works really well in bringing across these heavier topics. On tracks like "Bum Rush" and "Colors," the band give a thoughtful look at the race relations in America, with Ernie C firing off some of his greatest riffs.

Even when taking on more classic material, their punk updating on "Ace of Spades" would have surely left Lemmy proud if he were still here. They may have a few decades under their belt, but Body Count are still coming through with engaging ideas to bang your head to. If you only know Ice-T from Law and Order, give this a listen to see his true rage.
