15 Best Hard Rock & Metal Albums Of 2020 (So Far)

9. Underneath - Code Orange

For most beginner hard rock fans, the riff and melody is what draws you into every song. While the entire production may be heavy, there's no getting around the fact that the catchiness of the tune is what gets the crowd going. On the other hand, Code Orange is the band you go to when you want all-out anarchy coming through your speakers.

This band's previous effort Forever turned out to be one of the heaviest efforts of the 2010's, with songs that put your brain in the middle of a sonic cage match. However, on Underneath, the band proved that their original heights weren't a fluke, with every single instrument pushed to the absolute limit. The vocals from each singer here are phenomenal, with songs like "Swallowing the Rabbit Whole" feeling like a pack of feral animals on the brink of going berzerk.

A lot of bands in the hardcore scene tend to go too edgy for shock value, but these guys are seasoned pros when it comes to setting up a dark atmosphere that makes you feel both energized and terrified at the same time. The hard rock world may have more tuneful offerings, but if you need something that will peel the paint off the walls through sheer sonic force of will, this will do the trick.
