15 Best Heavy Metal Songs Of 2016 (So Far)

8. Electric Citizen - Evil

Some welcome old-school vibes and a vintage Black Sabbath sound template are the order of the day for this Cincinnati, Ohio four-piece. With the release of their second LP this year entitled Higher Time, Electric Citizen carry the torch for heavy metal in its purest form. Lead single 'Evil' is a prime example of this.

The intro is straight from the Sabbath rule book with its slow, horror-inspired sound, before launching into a catchy hybrid of clean vocals and dirty riffs. Even the drums are reminiscent of Geezer Butler's playing style, giving this track a hard backbone amidst the razor sharp guitar chords.

A fantastic sultry vocal performance by lead singer Laura Dolan gives 'Evil' some genuine mystique as she glides this slinking number along. More importantly the track simply rocks hard, with a high-speed guitar solo putting the icing on the cake.

'Evil' is a brilliant 70's throwback track and a stark reminder of what made heavy metal so great in the first place.
