1. Cities Of The Future

This is THE defining Infected Mushroom track, and arguably the most defining track in all of psychedelic trance music. Everything about this track screams ‘psychedelic’: the ‘rolling bassline’, ridiculously powerful kick drum, metallic sounds, and heavily-Autotuned vocals.

This track is definitely the antithesis of the Goa trance roots that the group began with: instead of organic and smooth sounds, ‘Cities of the Future’ is full of sharp and attack-heavy leads and LFOs that come at you and leave very quickly.

Then, there’s the crescendo.

Normally reserved for the end of the track, IM put it in the middle for this one, and by God, it is heavy. From the 4:10 mark to the 4:50 mark, IM deliver one of the most powerful acid leads ever composed, giving us the best example of what modern psychedelic music sounds like.

Back when iTunes had the ‘iTunes essentials’, this was the #1 entry for ‘psytrance’. It’s not hard to see why; Infected Mushroom have crafted a masterpiece that defines the entire genre perfectly, and demonstrates their musical skills to a T.
