2. Heavyweight

‘Heavyweight’ is one of the few tracks that can tell a story without any lyrics whatsoever. The track follows IM’s trend of adding strange sounds, except this isn’t a psychedelic piece at all; this is the epitome of the group’s experimentation with industrial and other musical genres.

'Heavyweight' can be divided into four ‘phases’. The opening phase features a slow introduction that combines synthesized instruments with sampling of other sounds (such as cameras snapping and broken glass), before shifting into a guitar-and-synth-led sound that slowly builds up and up.

Next is a short psychedelic phase that features some of the time-honored signatures of IM’s sound: a heavy, almost click-like kick drum, short bass notes, and your usual weird sound (in this case, what sounds like a person speaking incoherently).

After a short bridge and some soft humming, we reach the third phase, which features a loud overture of heavy guitar and synthesis that speaks volumes of raw emotion and aggressive sounds. The lead sound, which is on the border between full-blown guitar strings and IM’s ‘metal’ sound, is played masterfully, culminating in an outstanding crescendo.

After yet another ‘cooling down’ segment, the track builds itself up for the fourth and final phase, which is a continuation of the third one, only in this one, every single instrument and effect is brought into play to create a truly powerful sound.

Long story short, it’s an awesome track that should be on every Infected Mushroom fan’s playlist.
