12. Diamonds From Sierra Leone (Late Registration)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92FCRmggNqQ Best Line: "I forgot better s**t than you ever thought of" A Grammy winner for Best Rap Song, Diamonds From Sierra Leone represents a more contemplative Kanye. Knowingly throwing in a sample from the globe-trotting James Bond series (Shirley Bassey's theme song for Diamonds Are Forever) Kanye pits his transient wealth against legitimate suffering. Never one to shy away from his guilt, yet never guilty enough to renounce his lifestyle, Kanye turns the idea of conflict diamonds into a rap anthem. Deftly blending the intimately personal with global issues, Kanye may lack perspective but he makes up for it with brutal honesty. He wears his heart on his sleeve, and if that leads him to saying the wrong things at the wrong times, so be it. Diamonds From Sierra Leone is a great track produced by Fiona Apple and Paul Thomas Anderson collaborator Jon Brion. The music may not always come first with Kanye, but it always has the last word.
