15 Best Metal Albums Of 2019

2. Cult Of Luna - A Dawn To Fear

Following the Julie Christmas-assisted Mariner was a tall order, even for a band with a discography as impeccable as Cult of Luna's. The Swedes knocked it out of the park, though. Of course they did.

Losing Christmas' otherworldly melodicism was no hindrance. On A Dawn To Fear, Cult of Luna once again prove themselves masters of building towards and executing beautiful, skull-rattling crescendos. Instrumentally, they're as rich and organic as ever, shattering well-craft moments of sombreness with raw-boned sludge power without ever abandoning intricacy, making A Dawn to Fear one of their most impressive releases.

That Cult of Luna are still delivering at this level 18 years after their debut album is astounding.
