12. Just Breathe

"Just Breathe" is a delicate, acoustic song that utilises a technique called 'travis picking'. The same technique is used in Kansas' 'Dust In The Wind'. It's a song that lets Vedder show off his talent as a guitarist as well as singer. Taken from 2009's Backspacer, this song could double as lullaby.

People who follow Vedder's solo career, and have a keen ear, will notice that the intro has a resemblance to another song of his: Tuolumne from the Vedder's 2007 Into The Wild, a soundtrack to the film of the same name. Vedder himself said that a chord in Tuolumne inspired Just Breathe.

Lyrically, it is a love song. An oddity from Pearl Jam, but if you're going to write one, you may as well make as good as this. The words suggest that a couple are separated and that the narrator stops and thinks and counts himself as "lucky man". Even though it hasn't been around for long, it's becoming a must-see at gigs.

James Davidson hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
