15 Best Rock Songs About Growing Up

12. Burnout - Green Day

Burnout is a song from Green Day's early days, which touches upon the psychological turmoil that comes with growing older, typically around the time when one is making the transition from adolescence to adulthood. This track follows a jaded young man who, for lack of a better term, no longer cares about life. He forces himself to socialize, going through the motions while remaining all but mentally vacant.

After all, many of Green Day's early works followed a specific theme: the musings of a confused young man. Although, you should consider the fact that upon this song's release in 1994, lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong was but 22 years old. Twenty-three years later, and the band is still together and still going strong. It just goes to show that the mental slumps that helped inspire this song do end.

Despite its rather somber theme, however, this is a song that is chock-full of energy. The instrumental is fast and intense and the vocals have a very apparent vigor about them. Not to mention a simple, yet catchy chorus, which you'll likely find yourself able to sing along to without missing a beat by the end of your very first time listening.
