9. Morrissey
Now there are opinionated stars... and then there's Morrissey. Such a prominent figure since late 1980's popular culture he's known simply by just one name. Whether it be through his bleak social commentary, his brutal condemnation of the monarchy, his anti-Thatcher outbursts, the endless debacles with the NME, being a fierce animal rights activist, falling out with Johnny Marr but reuniting in their stance to forbid David Cameron from liking The Smiths Morrissey is one of the most charismatic performers, with one eye on the music and the other observing the world. He may not be the most obvious choice for a pop hero, but he's real. He's as real as they come. He's edgy, confrontational, obnoxious and unafraid to speak his mind, which is exactly what you want from a frontman. "I've never intended to be controversial but it's very easy to be controversial in pop music because nobody ever is". Underneath all of the gloom and despair he really is a charming man. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_h-lN-ipAEI
