15 Facts You Didn't Know About Blink-182
4. Their Self-Titled Album Was The First To Not Feature Any Joke Songs
Joke songs have been a staple of blink-182's back catalogue since their very first album in 1995. 'I Won’t Be Home for Christmas' features the line “Christmas came a night early 'Cause a guy named bubba unwrapped my package” and 'Built This Pool' is made up entirely of the lines “Woo, woo. I wanna see some naked dudes. That's why I built this pool."
It took the band 11 years and six albums to write their first record without any jokes, but once they did, they penned one of the all time greatest pop-punk albums.
The blink-182 self-titled album is widely recognised as some of their darkest work, touching on emergence into adulthood and the ways in which fame can begin to take its toll on you.
Before its release, the band had begun to separate, explore side projects and fall into family life, and there were times where they didn’t even know if they’d release more music.
However, what was created from this struggle was an album with far more self expression than before and an autobiographical nature about broken relationships. The album may not have the signature jokes of the band, but many would say it’s their best.
