15 Facts You Didn't Know About Blink-182
1. There Was A Lawsuit Over Take Off Your Pants And Jacket
Say take off your pants and jacket out loud enough times and you’ll eventually see the pun in it all.
...Take Off Your Pants and Jack It? (Of course it’s a pun about masturbation).
The title is a pretty brilliant yet subtle joke, and catches out people who have been loving the album for years, however it beat out some pretty dire choices.
One was ‘If You See Kay’, which say it out loud and it sounds like ‘f.u.c.k’. Britney Spears took this one later with her song, 'If You Seek Amy'.
Another option was Genital Ben, a play on the TV show Gentle Ben, again not great, although the cover was going to have a bear on it.
The iconic name eventually chosen came about from the guitar tech, Larry Palm who was out snowboarding one day when he heard a mother say to her child “Take off your pants and jacket.”
When he suggested the phrase to the band, DeLonge said he’d hook the tech up in return for permission to use it, however when the time came to it, Palm only received $500.
He ended up suing the band for $20,000 to then get a $10,000 settlement, all over a pun-filled album name.
Clearly lawsuits follow blink-182 around. Maybe that number relates to how many they've been involved in?
