15 Greatest Classic Rock Guitar Solos
13. Let It Be - The Beatles
The titular song from The Beatles' classic 1970 album, "Let It Be" was written by Paul McCartney after having a dream concerning his late mother.
Although the song is already very emotional, it becomes even more melancholic when placed in the context of The Beatles' final album, acting as a sort-of swansong for the legendary band that made their mark on music history throughout the 1960's.
It's important to note that there are two versions of this song, the album version and the single version, that each have different guitar solos. We'll be looking at the album version in this entry, as it is arguably the more pronounced and memorable out of the two versions.
On the album version of "Let It Be", George Harrison plays an effectively simple guitar solo, based solely around the commonly used Minor Pentatonic scale, which works to properly convey the power and emotion of the song in a brilliant fashion.
The inclusion of this particular solo makes for a fabulous addition to the song, giving a more raw and intense feeling to an otherwise simple piano ballad. This is perhaps one of the most recognisable guitar solos in The Beatles' discography, and a wonderful demonstration of how George Harrison knew when to play with restraint for the benefit of the song.
