15 Greatest Classic Rock Guitar Solos

14. Light My Fire - The Doors

The song that launched The Doors into international fame in the 1960's, "Light My Fire" is a seven-minute psychedelic ballad that showcases the talent of each member of the band with brilliant ease.

The song has been praised as one of the band's finest, and it's easy to see why upon first listening to it. Jim Morrison's poetic lyrics are made all the more potent by Robby Krieger, Ray Manzarek and John Densmore, whose respective guitar, keyboard and drum work merge together to give the song a unique and vibrant feel.

The guitar solo of "Light My Fire" is played exclusively in the Dorian mode, thus giving it a more jazz-oriented feeling that other rock solos lack. It's a shame that, much like "My Sharona", the extended version of this song is often cut down when played on the radio, thus omitting sections of the lengthy guitar solo. On the whole, the rough and improvisational feel of the solo makes it all the more distinctive, and serves as a perfect indicator of Robby Krieger's diverse range, as well as his complex style of playing. As a result of the entire band's musical aptitude, "Light My Fire" still stands as a brilliant introduction to the psychedelic rock of The Doors
