3. Slave To The Grind (1991) - Skid Row
Oh man, this album. Skid Row's Slave To The Grind. This album friggin rocks, man. I know, I could say that about every album on this list, but this album is special for me. You see, before I heard this album, I was at a musical crossroads. I was getting really sick of thrash metal and was seeking out more melodic, less angry types of heavy metal. And when I discovered Slave To The Grind, my world was forever changed. Okay, enough about me. So, a little history of the album. After Skid Row's self-titled first album, which was pretty typical hair metal stuff (but still a great album), they decided to go a little heavier and tackle some more serious subject matter. And thus, Slave To The Grind was born. Oh, and while Metal Health was notable for being the first album to make it to No. 1 on Billboard, Slave To The Grind was the first metal album to actually
debut at No. 1. No small feet. You know how when usually you listen to an album, you skip over the tracks you don't like and just play the good ones? I rarely do that with Slave To The Grind. All the songs are really that good. The riffs are bad-ass, yet still melodic enough to appeal to the mainstream crowd. And Sebastian Bach is, hands down, the best vocalist of the genre. All you have to do is listen to Monkey Business, the first track on the album, to know why. You'll be hooked.
