15 Greatest Pop Punk Albums Of The 2000s
4. Jimmy Eat World - Bleed American
There aren't too many Jimmy Eat World albums that fall under the umbrella of pop punk, but that's a shame, because for a few brief, shining moments they stood squarely above most of the radio-ready bands of the genre.
Bleed American kicks off strong right out of the gate with the buzzsaw guitars of the title track before moving swiftly into what might as well be their magnum opus, "A Praise Chorus," which name-drops half a dozen of the band's influences (Most notably Tommy James and the Shondells, Madness, and The Promise Ring.) And who doesn't get chills listening to those epic opening "whoa-ohs" interspersed between the crunching guitar riffs of "The Sweetness"?
Things do get a little jauntier than the band's previous albums, though, particularly with summery anthems like "If You Don't, Don't" and "The Authority Song."
Overall, Bleed American holds up so much better than it likely has any right to, especially after we were all beat over the head with "The Middle" on pop radio for so long.
