15 Greatest Queen Songs Of All Time

12. Hammer To Fall

Queen Bohemian Rhapsody
PA/PA Archive

From: The Works (1984)

Another concert favorite from The Works, “Hammer to Fall” is one of Queen’s more politically charged tracks. The world was still in the midst of the Cold War, and the threat of nuclear warfare still at large. Since it could happen at any moment, they were waiting for the “hammer to fall” (i.e. the bombs to drop). Today, with tensions between the United States and North Korea over nuclear warfare, the track is more relevant than ever.

Combine that message with an infectious chorus and one hell of a guitar riff, and you’ve got one of Queen’s most popular tunes from the latter part of their career.

It was also the only track the band played in full during their legendary performance at Live Aid, so it gains some points for that distinction.
