15 Insane Examples Of Rock N' Roll Excess

2. Whitney Houston - Crack Is Wack

http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/02135/whitney_2135990b.jpg Houston was always vaunted as the squeaky clean, wholesome Princess of Pop with the magical voice. But behind the scenes things were falling apart by the late 90s. She was late for interviews and photo shoots, missed concerts and interviews. The bubble was bust in January 2000 when marijuana was found in both Whitney's and her bad boy husband's suitcases at an Hawaiian airport. Rumours of drug use continued and Whitney was fired from performing at the Oscars. In August 2001, Arista records gave her an incredible $100 million record deal but it soon became clear her drug habits would prevent her from fulfilling the contract. She did an interview with Diane Sawyer in which she denied smoking crack, making the infamous 'Crack is wack' remark but did confess to using other drugs, including cocaine. She had a couple of well received albums and seemed to be on her way up until her appearance in the 2005 reality show Being Bobby Brown which to be honest, did not paint a very flattering picture of Houston. Roundly derided by onlookers, a second show was not commissioned. In 2007, Bobby and Whitney got divorced in a most acrimonious fashion. Whitney went on Oprah in September 2009 and admitted to smoking joints laced with crack cocaine with her ex husband. Another comeback in 2010 was met with mixed reviews with many fans shocked at the deterioration of Houston's voice. The tragedy came on February 11th 2012. Whitney was found dead submerged in a bath tub in a hotel in Beverley Hills. The cause of death was not immediately clear but was later ruled to be accidental drowning. There was cocaine, benadryl, Xanax, marijuana and Flexeril in her system. The woman they had referred to as 'The Voice' had her life cut short due to the excesses she was compelled to assimilate into her life.
