15 Landmark Albums That Changed The Face Of Music Forever

3. Lauryn Hill - The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill

Whether it€™s viewed as a massive leap for hip-hop into broader mainstream appeal or as the perfect representation of the previously unappreciated neo-soul genre, there€™s no denying that Lauryn Hill€™s first solo album had a massive impact on both. Released at a time when a lot of female solo artists were using sexuality and well-worn pop conventions, Miseducation was a counterbalance. Miseducation is deeply personal, very soulful, and transcended gender while still distinctly being a powerful insight into a female singer/songwriter€™s perspective. By putting less emphasis on keeping up with trends in music, Miseducation stood out in the pack and set a new standard for music regardless of gender or genre. The only downside to Miseducation is that to date, Lauryn Hill has yet to record a follow up. Album Highlights: €œDoo Wop (That Thing),€ €œWhen It Hurts So Bad,€ €œEverything is Everything€
