10 Most Criminally Underrated Alter Bridge Songs You Must Hear
4. Cry A River
Opening with a string-skipping riff I don't think any other guitarist would ever think of, Cry A River is an album highlight already packed with them on Fortress.
Myles' vocal style here is also something none of the fans saw coming, as it's very lyrically-driven, the beat slowing down and letting him deliver passages that could easily cross genres into something potentially rap-focussed. The whole composition proves the band are never going to be one to rest on their laurels, and come the point Mark contributes his solo, there's a sliding sweep-picking passage that is just mind-bending to comprehend and/or replicate.
A personal favourite across the entire album, Cry a River is one of their more experimental songs, and is all the better for it.
