15 Most Distinctive Singing Voices In Rock & Metal

2. Lemmy Kilmister

And, while we're on the subject of irreplaceable heavy metal legends taken from us all too soon, no list of distinctive singing voices would be complete without the harsh but strangely soothing grunts of Motörhead's Lemmy Kilmister.

There are few people who embody rock 'n' roll quite as immaculately as Lemmy did. From the hat, shades and facial hair combo to his unapologetic penchant for whiskey, the bass-hammering lunatic was every bit as badass as the genre calls for.

Presumably, it's this very thirst that also gave rise to his signature vocal style, which - let's not beat around the bush here - sounds like the man ordered the majority of his meals from Black & Decker.

Gruff, strained and always intimidating, Lemmy's singing is the perfect sound for the hard-hitting timbres his bands Motörhead and Hawkwind went for. Whether you're a fan or not, it's virtually impossible to hear these punishing vocals and not immediately match them to the whiskey-soaked geezer they belonged to.
