Kicking off the decidedly more country-influenced portion of his career, Nashville Skyline features an uncharacteristically upbeat, crooning Bob Dylan. This was "Happy Dylan," a man that was so unfamiliar to fans of The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan that, upon first spin, they likely thought they'd purchased a Johnny Cash record by mistake. Those expecting a slew of heavy hitters might be disappointed with the bit of fluff interspersed throughout Nashville Skyline ("Peggy Day" should be permanently stricken from his catalogue, on account of it sullying the name of Dylan and country music), but there's more to like about this album than there isn't, which certainly can't be said about some of his later work.
